Underground Interview With Lady Psstol
Lady Psstol is an artist whose sound is a conglomerate of everything. Mostly soul though. She is a writer, a true artist not limiting herself to one form of expression. She challenges herself with it all.
What Musical Genre Do You Feel Best Describes Your Music And How Would You Describe Your Sound?
I’m influenced heavily by Jazz thanks to my father. He’s played music (trumpet) since before I was born. Although I rap and consider myself a lyricist my parents didn’t allow me and my siblings to listen to hip-hop growing up. It was Jazz, Gospel and R&B. Old soul in our household. So I guess I would describe my sound as a conglomerate of everything. Mostly soul though. All soul.

How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?
I’ve always been kind of a shy kid. Music is more of an outlet for me, you could say a therapy session. My normal everyday demeanor is quiet and reserved, I just observe my surroundings. In the booth, I come alive. I came home from college one day and my brother and his wife were home and when I came into town me and my brother would always record music at his house. His wife hadn’t heard me flow yet but after she did she was very surprised. She helped coin the name Pistol. She said because I’m silent but deadly. I later added “Lady” and changed “Pistol” to “Psstol” coming for your mental. It just seemed to fit. Lyrically I love to challenge the listener. Make them think.
