Amanda Nolan is a singer/songwriter/performer from West Grove, Pennsylvania. She describes her sound as "Pop with a little bit of Soul". The mix of styles really comes from her love of several music genres.
Amanda has been singing most of her life, writing her own songs and performing live since 2012 and it's obvious she has a passion for what she is doing. In addition to songwriting and performing live her other love is being in the studio and recording. With 3 EPs and a full-length album of original music to her credit Amanda is currently working on a new full-length album. Amanda believes there is nothing more rewarding than hearing something you wrote come full circle and become a finished professional music track and prides herself with writing all her own material.
"Right now Amanda is concentrating on moving forward, playing live at as many venues as possible, writing, recording and inspiring other young performers to follow their dreams!
What Musical Genre Do You Feel Best Describes Your Music And How Would You Describe Your Sound?
I would say that pop/soul best describes my music. I love to have classic pop elements to my music, while adding some soul through R&B. In each song that I write and record I make sure to add acoustic elements, because I love hearing real instruments hidden within pop songs. I love having my sound be a mix of different genre's because then it leaves me room to be fully creative!
How Did You Get Your Name? Is There A Story?
I've always had a love for music but I started pursuing it professionally when I was 11. I was put in contact with my mentor Johnni Levi, who taught me many things about songwriting and helped guide me through finding who I was as an artist. From there I started performing everywhere I could from bars to restaurants, to festivals, and I've been doing that ever since. I have continued to write all of my music and have released multiple ep's and an album! I have also started posting weekly videos on my YouTube channel called "MusicMondays" and I have been growing a following from there! Also, to answer the question about going by my real name, I just think it's the most authentic to me to go by the name I was given at birth!!
What Are or Have Been Your Musical Influences?
My biggest musical influence from day one is Ed Sheeran. Just by listening to his music and his lyrics, he has taught me so much and helped me grow as an artist. I relate to him because of how he taught himself guitar, started writing songs, and just went for it. He was so dedicated to making it in this industry, and I aspire to be as fearless of an artist as he is . Also because we both have red hair!
What Are You Working On Now? Any Future Collaborations We Can Look Forward To?
Currently I am working on recording new songs that I have written, and hopefully I will be releasing a new album this year! Along with that I will be performing in various places around my area, and posting weekly videos on my YouTube channel. I have some exciting things in the works so stay tuned!
What Is Your Ultimate Goal In The Music Industry? What Is Your Plan Of Action?
My goal in the Music Industry would be to record my music, release albums, and go on world tours. But my ultimate goal, is to make people feel something with my music. What Is Your Favorite Track To Perform Live and Why?
My favorite track to perform live would be my unreleased song "Till The Water's Clear" because it is a song that is so special and emotional to me, and I love seeing people in the crowd relating to it as I sing it. It's the best feeling in the world. I'm currently recording this song so be on the lookout for it!
What Has Been The Biggest Challenge In Your Career Thus Far?
The biggest challenge in my career has been dealing with the loneliness of trying to make it as a solo artist. When I was a Sophomore in high school, I left my school where I had been going my whole life to switch to online school. Then I decided to graduate a year early to pursue my career full time. That was a very lonely experience because I didn't see my friends everyday like I did at school, and I was constantly busy for my career. With that being said, I wouldn't have done anything differently because I am getting closer and closer to my dream everyday and I am so grateful for the decision I made.
What’s Your Typical Songwriting Process?
My typical songwriting process starts with either me sitting at my piano or playing my guitar trying to find a melody I like, or thinking of a topic that I feel passionate about. Most of the time I like to do both at the same time and let the music come to me on the spot, there is where I come up with some of my best songs. Every songwriting process is different for each songwriter so do whatever works for you!
How Has Social Media Influenced Your Career As An Artist?
Social media definitely has it's pros and cons, but I believed it has helped me as an artist because it has allowed my fans to see where I'll be performing, when my new songs will be released, and most importantly it has helped me connect with my fans. I love messaging with my supporters and taking advice from them of what they would like to see me do next in my career, and they are so caring and kind! As long as you don't sweat the people who want to tear you down, social media can be a very helpful and positive thing.
What Are Some Tracks and Artists Currently On Your Playlist?
Some artists that are currently on my playlist, are obviously Ed Sheeran because I am always listening to him. Another artist I'm listening to is James Bay who I've been a fan of forever, and Dan + Shay. Anything that these artists release is on my playlist!
What Did You Do Before You Started Making Music?
Before making music, I was doing some acting in plays and musicals and things like that. but always was singing so I knew I'd end up doing something in music. As a matter of fact I still do some acting in commercials here and there to help fund my time in the studio!! It gets expensive!
Any Advice For Young People (Men or Women) That Want To Succeed In The Music World?
My advice for young men and women who want to succeed in the music world would to be to stay true to yourself as an artist. You have to be making the music that you want to make otherwise you will start to lose the passion and love for music that you started with. With that being said, you have to find your perfect balance of staying true to yourself, and being open to advice and change from others in the industry. The most important thing is if you really want to make it, have no plan B. When there is nothing to fall back on, that's when you make things happen.
What Would You Change In The Music Industry If You Were A Top Music Executive?
If I were to change one thing in the Music Industry it would be to put people of value in the top positions in the industry. A lot of top people in this industry are just hungry for money, and they use peoples lives and dreams to get that for themselves. I wish it weren't that way but I think that everyday we are making progress.
How Do You Feel About Originality?
I think originality in an artist is so crucial. If you are trying to copy another artist it's useless because there is already that artist in the industry. If you want to make it, you have to have something different, be yourself because an original is worth more than a copy. Being authentic and original through your music is what is going to get people to keep listening and relating to you and want to see your shows!
