Underground Interview With Elín Halldórsdóttir

ElinSinger Elín Halldórsdóttir was born in Reykjavík on September 29, 1969. She began studying music at the age of 6 and piano at the age of 9. She released the 12-inch album TVÖ EIN with the song of the same name at the age of 15. Elín studied singing, piano and choir conducting at the New School of Music and the London College of Music at Thames Valley University London England. She holds a degree in art education from the Iceland Academy of the Arts Reykjavík.

Elín has conducted numerous choirs, and her main focus has been on elementary school children's choirs and gospel choirs, as she became acquainted with the gospel choir tradition while living in Cologne and Regensburg, Germany, where she conducted the choirs "Spirit of Joy" and "Femmes Fatales". She has since conducted various choirs and composed numerous arrangements.

In connection with her teaching work, Elín has created numerous songs and written 5 musicals for children. When she worked at Snælandsskóli in Kópavogur, members of the National Board of Education visited the school and subsequently requested to publish her musical “Ævintýri Sædísar skjaldbäku” (The Adventures of Sædís the Turtle), which is about a turtle trapped in plastic and her adventures in the deep sea and how she manages to get rid of the plastic, for primary schools in Iceland. It was due to the considerable streaming of her songs written for teaching that editors at SoundCloud contacted Elín in 2020 and asked her to participate in the repost project, which is a worldwide distribution agreement, where music uploaded to SoundCloud is reposted on 34 media outlets on all continents.

After that, things started to turn for Elín and a new audience opened up in many countries. She then released a number of electronic records and 4 albums, which are focused on an international audience. Her last albums The Other Side and Multiverse have the most streams in the United States, while countries in Europe, South America (Brazil and Argentina), Asia, the Soviet Union and others bring in more.

Last year Elín suffered extensive takedown of all hér Music distributed by SOUNDCLOUD and has to this day no access to hér artist page on SOUNDCLOUD. The reason might be connected to extensive new policies against independent Artists by some leading streaming platforms like Spotify but also rivalry in the Icelandic Music scene. Elín decided to work with á new distributor and excellent sound mixing pros at Landr.com, who is now her distributor.

Elín studied and practiced opera singing during her studies and also studied classical piano. It can be said that the style of her music is lyrical electronic pop with a spiritual message of peace and love in the world. She also tries in her songs to inform and make people think.

Elín herself says about her songs that she feels like a medium or an intermediary, and the songs flow through her from a higher source. She sings, records, and arranges most of her songs.
